Websites

I have worked on and for several websites before.

I know how to help create, foster, administrate, and keep internet communities running.

The following are websites I’ve either been employed by, volunteered for, or helped build and manage. All links open in a new window or tab.

PlanetCNC.com

I am a semi-active staff writer for this premiere Command & Conquer fansite, hosted by Gamespy Industries and IGN Entertainment, which is in turn owned by News Corporation. I work in the files department, reviewing and uploading user-submitted files. I also hold several contests and manage the PhotoshopTHIS! competition on the site. Strict adherence to copy-editing policy and web article styles was required at all times, as was good grammar and spelling. I have been a volunteer there since 2005.

Bell47Parts.com

I actually was employed by Bell47Parts.com for a while. I served not only as an inventory person, but I also worked on the website itself. I worked mostly on the back-end of the site, helping simplify the parts database, ensuring data integrity, and spot-checking database entries on the floor of the warehouse.

Team 1448 Robotics

I was the website manager for Parsons High School’s Robotics Team (Team 1448). I designed, built, and managed the the team’s website. I did the principle design layout, color scheme, and the CSS stylesheets. I wrote most of the articles on the site, such as the robot profiles, the “about the site” page, and the resources for teams page. I copy-edited and proofed all of the pages, ensuring proper grammar and spelling.

One of the most challenging things about this site was that the web server did not support server-side scripting languages, such as PHP or ASP.NET. Therefore, the entire site had to be coded in basic XHTML, and interactive features had to be implemented using only client-side scripting languages. We used primarily Adobe Flash and Sun Microsystems Javascript. We were still able to implement highly interactive features, such as a video player and image galleries.
